This page explains the three levels of international certification in project coaching:

 

Associate Project Coach™ (APC)

 

The Associate Project Coach™ recognises that the individual provides or is prepared to provide coaching services to project teams, however may not be highly experienced project managers themselves.

 

The criteria to become a certified Associate Project Coach™ (APC) are:

 

1. Have completed basic training or certification in project management; or be a PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM); or AIPM  Qualified Project Practitioner (QPP); or Prince2 Foundation Practitioner; or equivalent; and

 

2. Have completed basic training in psychology, coaching, education, or counselling; or be a certified NLP Practitioner; or ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC); or equivalent; and

 

3. Be willing to adhere to the Institute’s Code of Ethics.

Project Coach Professional™ (PCP)

 

The Project Coach Professional™ (PCP) recognises that the individual provides coaching services to project teams,and has a medium level of project management experience themselves.

 

The criteria to become a certified Project Coach Professional™ (PCP) are:

 

1. Have at least 5 years experience as a project manager or program manager; and

 

2. Have completed training in project management covering all of the nine knowledge areas of project management (e.g., Diploma level); or be a PMI Project Management Professional (PMP);  or have a AIPM Registered Project Manager (RPM) certification; or be a Prince2 Practitioner; or equivalent; and

 

3. Have completed training in coaching or counselling; or be a certified NLP Practitioner; or ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC); or have a qualification in education; or equivalent; and

 

4. Have at least 200 hours of project coaching experience with at least 20 different clients; or 5 years fulltime experience as a project management consultant; and

 

5. Be willing to adhere to the Institute’s Code of Ethics.

Master Project Coach™ (MPC)

 

The Master Project Coach™ (MPC) reflects a project coach who is a highly experienced project manager or program manager, as well as had significant training and experience in coaching, and has provided significant support to project teams.

 

The criteria to become a certified Master Project Coach™ (MPC) are:

 

1. Have at least 10 years experience as a project manager or program manager; and

 

2. Have completed an Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Project Management;  or be certified as a PMI Project Management Professional (PMP);  PMI Program Management Professional (PgMP); or AIPM Registered Project Manager (RPM); or AIPM Master Project Director (MPD); or equivalent; and

 

3. Have completed certification or have Diploma or higher qualifications in training, coaching, education or counselling;  or be certified as a Master Practitioner of NLP; or ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC); or equivalent; and

 

4. Have at least 400  hours of project coaching experience with at least 30 different clients; or at least 10 years experience as a project management consultant with proof of coaching project managers with troubled projects; and

 

5. Be willing to adhere to the Institute's Coach Code of Ethics.

Recertifying with ongoing Professional Development Credits (PDCs)

 

Every 3 years a certified project coach needs to recertify by demonstrating that they have been actively engaged in project coaching; and has acquired at least 10 credits each year that can be made up by:

 

1. 1-credit point per 1 hour of project or coach-related training, conference attendance or seminar education; and/or

 

2. 2-credit points for working as a project manager; and/or

 

3. 3-credit points for working as a professional project coach or consultant; and/or

 

4. 4-credit points for serving on a project management or coaching association board.
